Together with Meier Hug Architekten, we won this prestigious total services competition. The task presented a challenge to the entire team. With the relocation of the new headquarters of Zurich Insurance Company AG to Mythenquai, the office complex at Austrasse 44/46 in Zurich-Wiedikon became obsolete. The task was therefore to develop and realise a replacement building for the impressive 1970s office building, situated in the middle of the Enge residential neighbourhood in Zurich. The result is an elegant building that integrates into the immediate topographical surroundings and highlights the special character of the site, the “forest garden” of the moraine hill. The internal structure of the building is clearly and orthogonally organised, contrasting with the complex articulation of the building envelope. The arrangement of the apartments offers a wide variety of different residential typologies. Along Austrasse, an additional building volume integrates into the structure of the buildings lining the street. Construction began at the end of 2021 and, following a construction period of around two years, the building was handed over to the owners.
