Sagehof Ebikon: Moving Forward Together
The Sagehof in Ebikon is being renewed with care and foresight. The special character of the development will be preserved, while the apartments, buildings and open spaces will be carefully adapted to meet future needs. The project combines the refurbishment of the existing residential buildings with a targeted new-build project at Sagenhofstrasse 2, 4 and 6. This will create modern, attractive living spaces without sacrificing the valuable existing buildings or the development’s generous green spaces. The renewal is being implemented by Swiss Life Asset Management AG together with WSG AG as the general contractor. For the new building, certification to the Swiss Sustainable Construction Standard (SNBS) Gold is being pursued.

Existing apartments will be modernised
Most of the Sagehof development will be retained and comprehensively refurbished. Many residents will be able to remain in their apartment or within the development during the works. As part of the refurbishment, kitchens and bathrooms will be modernised, windows replaced and the buildings upgraded in terms of energy efficiency. At the same time, the existing oil-fired heating system will be replaced by a connection to the district heating network. This will make the heat supply more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The work will be carried out in stages to keep the impact on residents to a minimum.

A new building complements the existing Sagehof
A new residential building will be constructed at Sagenhofstrasse 2, 4 and 6. All other properties will be refurbished and continue to be used.

This solution combines the best of both worlds: the existing building fabric will be preserved, while new living space will be created where appropriate. In this way, the development can evolve carefully while retaining its identity. The new building will respond to its existing surroundings, integrate into the hillside setting and enhance the quality of the wider neighbourhood.

Sustainability as a guiding principle
Sustainability plays a central role in the renewal of Sagehof. Energy-efficiency improvements, new windows and a modern heating system will reduce the buildings’ energy consumption. Wherever possible, existing materials and building components will be reused. This helps conserve resources and extend the useful life of valuable construction materials. Opportunities for reuse will be carefully assessed and documented as the project progresses.

More nature and quality of life in the open spaces
The generous courtyards have always been a defining feature of Sagehof. They are intended to remain places for social interaction, relaxation and nature in the future.

Existing trees and shrubs will be retained wherever possible. In addition, new planting areas, further trees and diverse habitats for animals and plants will be created. Seating areas will invite people to linger, while new shaded spaces will provide a pleasant microclimate on warm days.

Rainwater management will also be improved: permeable surfaces will support the natural water cycle and contribute to a climate-adapted outdoor environment.

Consideration for residents
Refurbishing a development while it remains occupied presents particular challenges. The work will therefore be carefully planned and carried out step by step.

Residents will be informed about upcoming works at an early stage and supported throughout the entire project. The aim is to keep disruption to a minimum while ensuring a high-quality refurbishment of the apartments. The neighbourhood will also be kept informed on an ongoing basis about important construction phases and any changes.

A neighbourhood with a future
By combining careful refurbishment, targeted new construction and attractive open spaces, Sagehof will preserve what has proven successful while opening up new perspectives. In this way, the development will be sustainably transformed into a vibrant, sustainable and attractive place to live for current and future generations.
